I hope you are having a great day in the Lord. This is a reminder that beginning Tuesday, October 6th from 9:00 am -11:30 am, all seniors (age 55+) are invited to come and play Pickleball in our gym. This will be a weekly event every Tuesday and Thursday at these same hours. We will have 2 nets set up during this time, and four people can play on a court at one time. Colonial will only be providing (4) paddles, so you may need to bring your own equipment. You will not be required to wear a mask on the court, but you will need to wear one if you are on the sidelines.
What is Pickleball? A Lively Racket Game For All Ages and Abilities. Pickleball was created with one thing in mind: fun. It was designed to be easy to learn and play whether you’re five, eighty-five or somewhere in between.
Court and Gear
Pickleball is traditionally played on a badminton-sized court with special Pickleball paddles, made of wood or high-tech aerospace materials. The ball used is similar to a wiffle ball, but slightly smaller. The lower net and wiffle ball allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, while still allowing more competitive players to test their mettle. Pickleball Inc. is the original manufacturer of pickleball paddles, nets, balls, and accessories. The latest versions of all these products can be found here on our website.
Rules of the Game
In addition to the modified net and gear, there are several key rules in Pickleball® that help make the game more accessible. In tennis, and many net sports, games are often won and lost by the power of the serve. In Pickleball, the ball must bounce once on each side before volleys are allowed. This opens the game to more players and extends play for added fun.
If you are not interested in playing, then you can always come out and enjoy the fellowship. There is no cost, but you will need to click here to register.
If you have any questions, then you can call Justin Hollabaugh in Sports Ministries at 919-573-1564.
I hope you will consider coming out and enjoy fellowship with other senior adults!
